4 Teams to get benefit if Purse Value increases to INR 100 Crore in IPL 2024

The Indian Premier League is the biggest cricket tournament to take place in cricket. The amount of money involved in it is just unimaginable. All ten teams spent money like nothing to sign their favorite players at the auction. Sam Curran became the most expensive buy of all time in 2023 when the Punjab Kings signed him for INR 18.5 crore.

The mini-auction in 2023 saw some record-breaking purchases by the IPL team owners. Every team was given a purse value of INR 90 crore, and some of them spent all of their money. But the BCCI is planning to increase the purse value to INR 100 crore in the next edition of the league. And if it happens, there are a few teams that will surely get the benefit.

Here are four teams that will have a benefit if the IPL purse value increases to INR 100 crore in 2024.

1. Mumbai Indians

The five-time champion Mumbai Indians never shy away from investing in players, and their strategy is pretty clear: get the best one in the auction. MI won their last title in 2020, and it’s been three seasons since then. So with the increase in purse value, MI can surely make a big impact. As seen in the last auction, MI went all out for Cameron Green and signed him for INR 17.50 crore. MI were left with only INR 5 lacs in 2023, so the increase in value will help them go hard.

2. Chennai Super Kings

The Chennai Super Kings made headlines when they went after Ben Stokes at the auction. CSK broke all of their previous records and ended up signing the English all-rounder for INR 16.25 crore. Though that decision didn’t end well, CSK has shown in the last few auctions that they will go for players at any cost at the auction. The franchise filled all 25 spots in the squad and was left with INR 1.5 crore. Though they won the last edition, with 100 crore in the bank, Chennai can look for players who can help them retain their title.

3. Royal Challengers Bangalore

One of the most followed IPL franchises has yet to win its maiden IPL title. Royal Challengers Bangalore have struggled to win the title in the IPL despite playing three finals. They couldn’t even reach the playoffs in 2023. As a result, the franchise has made some changes in the coaching staff, sacking Sanjay Banger and Mike Hesson. One can expect a few changes in the squad as well. Some will be released, and some will be retained. But with the purse value getting increased, RCB can go for some good middle order and finishers for their team, which they lacked last season.

4. Kolkata Knight Riders

In the last five seasons, the Kolkata Knight Riders have qualified for the playoffs only once, in 2021, when they played in the final. But they have lacked consistency, and their key players have not had good performances. KKR has invested heavily in their retained players, which is why they couldn’t add any big and impactful names to their team in the last season as well. But if they decide to do the same in the coming season in 2024, then they will need an increased purse value, which can be good for the two-time champions. They had 21 players in 2023 and a remaining purse value of INR 1.65 crore.
