When the BCCI initiated the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the year 2008, many fans believed that the batters would dominate the competition. 14 years have passed, and one can say that the batters have dominated in the IPL more than the bowlers but it is not that the bowlers have had no say at all.
There have been many matches in the Indian Premier League history when the bowlers kept the batters under control. Normally, fans witness raining sixes in the IPL, and some even perceived that the batters can succeed in this format if they know the art of clearing the boundary by taking the aerial route frequently.
However, the same is not true. In the last 14 years of the competition, there have been many successful batters who preferred to play ground strokes, find gaps and score runs at a quick rate. In this article today, we will look at the five batters who smashed 200 fours in the IPL but hit less than 50 sixes.
1. Mahela Jayawardene – 200 fours, 39 sixes
Former Delhi Capitals skipper Mahela Jayawardene played 78 innings in the Indian Premier League, aggregating 1,802 runs. His highest score was 110*. The right-handed batter completed the 200 fours achievement but had hit only 39 sixes by that time.
2. Rahul Dravid – 269 fours, 28 sixes
Nicknamed The Wall, former Rajasthan Royals captain rarely took the aerial route in the IPL. He played 82 innings in the IPL but smashed only 28 sixes. At the same time, he smashed 269 fours.
3. Sachin Tendulkar – 295 fours, 29 sixes
Former Mumbai Indians captain Sachin Tendulkar smacked one six more than Dravid. Tendulkar batted in 78 innings and managed to hit 295 fours and 29 sixes.
