T20 format has proven to be a nightmare for the bowlers, especially in the last two to three years. With more and more curators providing flat surfaces and the introduction of rules like Impact Player, the bowlers have found it extremely difficult to keep a check on the run-flow.
10 to 15 years ago, it was considered a bad day for the bowler if he had an economy rate of seven runs per over. However, now, if a bowler manages to keep an economy rate of seven or even seven and a half runs per over, it is considered to be a good day for him.
It is not new to see bowlers leaking runs at an economy rate of more than 10 in this T20 era. There have also been some occasions when a bowler did not even complete his full quota of four overs and yet ended up giving away more than 60 runs. Here’s a list of five such bowlers.
5. Alex Dizija – 63 runs vs. Bulgaria, 2022
Serbian player Alex Dizija had a forgettable day in the office while playing against Bulgaria last year. The right arm off-spin bowler leaked 63 runs in just three overs.
4. Pat Brown – 63 runs vs. Glamorgan, 2020
Another bowler who gave away 63 runs without completing four overs is Pat Brown. He achieved the dubious feat against the Glamorgan county during the 2020 season.
3. Tom Curran – 63 runs vs. Essex, 2019
Sam Curran’s brother Tom has not had the best record in the T20 format. Back in 2019, Tom once went for 63 runs in his three overs against the team of Essex.
2. Ben Wheeler – 64 runs vs. Australia, 2018
The record for the most runs conceded in an international T20 game without completing four overs belongs to New Zealand’s Ben Wheeler. He went for 64 runs in 3.1 overs against Australia in 2018.
1. Arshdeep Singh – 66 runs vs. Mumbai Indians, 2023
