5 Cricketers Of Pakistan Origin Who Have Won The IPL Trophy

As we all know, Pakistan cricketers are not allowed in the Indian Premier League. However, they were part of the first edition of the competition. A few Pakistan-origin cricketers who represent other nations still take part in the league. In this article, we take a look at five cricketers of Pakistan Origin who have won the IPL.

Players such as Owais Shah and Usman Khawaja are Pakistan-born cricketers who represent different nations. They have also played in the Indian Premier League. A few of them have also won the tournament. We take a look at the names in this article.

1) Kamran Akmal – IPL 2008

Kamran Akmal was a consistent part of the Pakistan setup when IPL had begun. Hence, Rajasthan Royals had picked him for IPL 2008. The wicket-keeper played six games to score 128 runs at an average of 25.60. Kamran also has an IPL fifty to his name. His strike rate of 164 was one of the impressive aspects of his batting in that campaign. Kamran is still an active part of the game.

2) Sohail Tanvir – IPL 2008

Sohail Tanvir is one of the cricketers of Pakistan Origin who have won the IPL. He is one of the best Pakistani performers in the history of the competition. Back in IPL 2008, Tanvir collected 22 wickets and was one of the main reasons why RR went all the way to lift the trophy. In a match, Tanvir recorded figures of 6/14, which was the best figure by a bowler for a very long time in the competition. The left-arm seamer gave away runs at an economy of just 6.46 in that edition.

3) Younis Khan – IPL 2008

Younis Khan is one of the legendary batsmen in the history of Pakistan cricket. However, in the T20 format, Younis could not make a great name. For Rajasthan in season 1, the former Pakistan skipper played just one game. He scored three runs in that encounter and never got a chance after that.

4) Imran Tahir – IPL 2018 and IPL 2021

Imran Tahir is also one of the Pak-origin players to have won the IPL. He has won it twice, in 2018 and then, recently in 2021. Although his form in recent seasons has been inconsistent, back in 2019, he had collected 26 wickets. Apart from CSK, Tahir has also played for teams such as Delhi Capitals and Rising Pune Supergiants in the history of the competition.

5) Moeen Ali – IPL 2021

Moeen Ali is one of the cricketers of Pakistan Origin who have won the IPL. Although born in England, Moeen traces his roots to Pakistan. The all-rounder has been a part of the competition since 2018. However, for IPL 2021, he made the move to Chennai Super Kings. He was an instant hit at the franchise. CSK made the best use of Moeen and in turn, the Englishman had a crucial role to play in CSK winning the tournament. Ahead of the IPL 2022 Mega Auctions, Moeen has been retained by the franchise.
