U-19 cricket is considered the first step towards greatness, but there have been many cricketers who have disappeared after performing well at the junior level. Not all stories that start well end well in this sport. However, there have been instances of some stories getting a better end.
It had a twist, which was shifting to another nation. The following players, who are a part of the USA squad in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, were once representing another nation in U-19 cricket.
1. Shayan Jahangir played U-19 cricket for Pakistan
Born in Karachi, Shayan Jahangir started playing cricket for Pakistan International Airlines. The batter even played at the U-19 level for Pakistan, but at the senior level, he is playing for USA now.
2. Andries Gous played U-19 cricket for South Africa
Wicketkeeper Andries Gous was born in South Africa, and he even represented his country of birth at the U-19 level. However, at the age of 30, he now plays for the USA team.
3. Nitish Kumar
Nitish Kumar is an Indian origin player who was born in Canada and played at the U-19 level for the Canadian team. Now, he has switched to USA, and he is the one of the top finishers of the team.
4. Harmeet Singh
Harmeet Singh was a member of the Indian squad that won the 2012 U19 World Cup under Unmukt Chand’s captaincy. Now, Harmeet and Unmukt both live in USA, and the former is even playing in the T20 World Cup.
5. Saurabh Netravalkar
Saurabh Netravalkar was a part of the Indian U-19 team in the 2010 U-19 World Cup. The pace-bowling all-rounder works for Oracle full-time and follows his passion of cricket part-time as well.
