Delhi Capitals is one of the best teams in IPL right now. Despite the absence of their captain Shreyas Iyer, the team did exceptionally well in IPL 2021. However, with a mega-auction likely to happen, DC might have to let go of certain cricketers. In this article, we discuss five former players Delhi Capitals should target at IPL 2022 Mega Auction.

Before 2018, Delhi was one of the underperforming squads in the competition. They often released talented cricketers who did not do well for them. That said, a few of them could come back to the squad in 2022. Here are five ex-players Delhi Capitals should target at IPL 2022 Mega Auction.

1. Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell is one of the former players Delhi Capitals should target at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. If the franchise retains Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer and Prithvi Shaw before IPL 2022, there will be a requirement for an experienced middle-order batsman. Maxwell could be that guy, after having returned to form in IPL with RCB. Just like he is doing at RCB, Maxwell could play at No.4 and release the pressure on Pant and Iyer. The Aussie will also lend leadership experience to this young unit.

2. Mohammed Shami

Delhi Capitals will inevitably target Avesh Khan at the auctions or might even retain him before IPL 2022. Despite this, since Avesh is inexperienced, Delhi will have to invest in a seasoned domestic pacer. However, they will want a player who can play all fourteen games for the franchise. Mohammed Shami looks fit for that role. Since the Bengal pacer may not be retained by PBKS, he could be available in the auctions. Delhi must try to sign him up so that they could have a settled bowling line-up.

3. Chris Morris

Chris Morris was once an important part of the Delhi Capitals unit. However, after a spate of injuries and a run of poor form, the player was released by the outfit. That said, it might be a good time to get the South African back to the Capitals squad. With Kagiso Rabada likely to be brought back by the franchise, Morris will be a fine companion for him. He would also improve the batting after No.7 or could also be employed as a pinch-hitter.

4. David Warner

It would be hard for Delhi to retain the opening combination of Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw for IPL 2022. With the mega-auction coming up, the competition to hire players will not allow DC to get back both the premier Indian openers. In that case, the franchise could target David Warner, a player whom SRH might release. If DC can get Warner, it will be a major coup. Him and Pant batting together will be a nightmare for the opposition bowlers. Warner will also bring captaincy experience to the unit.

5. Rahul Tewatia

Rahul Tewatia is one player whom DC could look to re-hire. He would be a useful addition to the reserves or might even feature in the strongest XI. The all-rounder could play at No.7 and provide an attacking look to the lower-order. He is also a decent bowler who can come on his own on tracks that assist spin. Moreover, with Amit Mishra likely to hang up his boots after IPL 2021, Tewatia may be a decent replacement, although not a like-to-like match.
