Mumbai Indians are the joint-most successful team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history. Founded in 2008, MI have won the IPL title five times. Rohit Sharma was the captain of the team in all the seasons, where Mumbai became the champions.
While Sharma’s captaincy played a huge role in MI’s wins, there was another major role reason behind the team’s success. It was the scouting process. Not just local talents, but the scouts of MI also found some foreigners before they became famous. Here’s a list of five such talents.
1. Luke Wood will play for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024
Luke Wood has joined MI as a replacement for Jason Behrendroff ahead of the IPL 2024 tournament. Wood was performing well in PSL, and now the English left-arm pacer will play in IPL.
2. Marco Jansen joined Mumbai Indians in IPL 2021
Marco Jansen is another left-arm fast bowler to feature on the list. He was an uncapped South African all-rounder when MI smartly signed him in 2021 based on Quinton de Kock’s suggestion.
3. Duan Jansen
Duan Jansen is the brother of Marco. He made his IPL debut for MI in IPL 2023, where he conceded 53 runs in one match against KKR. He is yet to play for South Africa.
4. Glenn Maxwell
Not many fans would remember that Glenn Maxwell once played for MI. Back in 2013, MI spent USD 1 million to sign Maxwell, but he did not receive enough chances to showcase his talent.
5. Tristan Stubbs
Explosive South African wicketkeeper batter Tristan Stubbs was relatively unknown when MI signed him as a replacement for Tymal Mills in IPL 2022. Stubbs has now moved to Delhi Capitals.
