MS Dhoni will go down as one of the greatest cricket captains of all time. The Ranchi-born wicket-keeper batsman took Indian cricket to the next level with his ‘out of the box’ thinking. Under his captaincy, the Indian cricket team won the ICC T20 World Cup 2007, ICC Champions Trophy 2013, and the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011.

Apart from that, the Indian Test team surpassed every other country on the ICC rankings for countries. The wicket-keeper batsman created some unique records during his time as an Indian cricketer. However, he decided to hang up his boots on August 15, 2020. MS Dhoni announced his retirement via social media.

While many MS Dhoni records are still intact, this listicle features those five records that are no longer in his name.

5. Most fifties by an Indian wicket-keeper batsman in T20Is

MS Dhoni batted lower down the order and often played cameo knocks for the Indian cricket team. The right-handed batsman registered only two half-centuries while donning the Indian jersey in T20Is.

KL Rahul recently broke MS Dhoni’s record by recording his third fifty as a wicket-keeper batsman in the game’s shortest format. Rahul had scored two fifties in the 5-match T20I series against New Zealand earlier this year. In the recently-concluded T20I series against Australia, the Kings XI Punjab captain scored a fifty in the first match.

4. Highest score by an Indian batsman batting number seven or lower in T20Is

As mentioned ahead, MS Dhoni batted in the lower middle-order of the Indian T20I team. The Chennai Super Kings captain held the record for the highest individual score at number seven or lower in T20Is for the Men in Blue.

However, Ravindra Jadeja broke that record in the same T20I where KL Rahul registered his third fifty as India’s wicket-keeper batsman. The southpaw smacked 44 runs at number seven to shatter his CSK skipper’s record of 38 runs against England in 2012.

3. Most sixes in international cricket as a captain

MS Dhoni captained the Indian cricket team for an extended period. Under his leadership, the Indian team achieved unimaginable success. Dhoni played the finisher’s role in his team and hit 211 sixes in international cricket while captaining India.

English skipper Eoin Morgan overtook Dhoni on that leaderboard by hitting his 212th six as a captain in the third ODI versus Ireland earlier this year. The Englishman is now in the number one position among the captains with the most sixes in global cricket.

2. Most dismissals by a wicket-keeper in T20Is

MS Dhoni donned the Indian cricket team’s gloves behind the stumps for over a decade in T20Is. The Ranchi-based player executed 91 dismissals, including 54 catches and 37 stumpings in his T20I career.

Australia Women’s cricket team’s wicket-keeper batsman Alyssa Healy surpassed MS Dhoni on the wicket-keepers’ list with the most dismissals in T20I cricket history. She executed the 92nd dismissal of her career in a T20I against New Zealand Women.

1. Most runs as an Indian captain in T20Is

MS Dhoni also held the record for the most runs by an Indian captain in T20 internationals. But that record is in the name of the current Indian T20I skipper Virat Kohli now.

The Delhi-based batsman broke MS Dhoni’s record earlier this year in the series against New Zealand. Dhoni had aggregated 1,112 runs as Indian T20I captain, while Virat Kohli has 1,271 runs now.
