Trade deals in IPL History are always something exciting to look at. At that time, many of these deals went under the radar due to a lack of coverage in the news. However, now, even if one trade deal materializes, there would be plenty of articles surrounding it.

Apart from doing their work at the auctions, Mumbai Indians are a shrewd franchise when it comes to making use of the trade deals. They make use of this window and have a history of pulling off some spectacular deals during this period. This has helped them win the trophy on multiple occasions.

1. Quinton de Kock (IPL 2019) – One of the best trade deals in IPL History

When Royal Challengers Bangalore purchased Quinton de Kock for a decent amount at the IPL 2018 auctions, many felt it was a great move. The South African also contributed with a few good knocks in that season. However, at the end of that campaign, RCB traded the player to Mumbai Indians. Since then, there has been no looking back for the player and the MI franchise. They have won two trophies since that deal. Hence, this can be considered as one of the best trade deals in IPL history.

2. Zaheer Khan (IPL 2009)

Zaheer Khan was at RCB in IPL 2008. After that season, MI and RCB were involved in a trade deal that saw Zaheer move to Mumbai and Robin Uthappa come to RCB. It was a homecoming moment for both the cricketers. While Robin was actually good in a few games for RCB, Zaheer was at his usual best for Mumbai. Zaheer then played again for Mumbai Indians and is currently one of the prominent members of the team’s backroom staff.

3. Trent Boult (IPL 2020) – One of the trade deals in IPL History that directly led to a championship

Trent Boult was surplus to requirements at the Delhi Capitals, which already had Kagiso Rabada as its lead pacer. Hence, he was traded to Mumbai Indians. This move was a masterpiece by MI. Boult’s arrival meant that Bumrah could operate more freely and be used only at the death, where he is effective. Boult looked after the bowling during the power-play and was successful with his act. He was one of the main reasons why MI won the IPL trophy in 2020.

4. Dinesh Karthik (IPL 2012)

Dinesh Karthik’s move from Kings XI Punjab to Mumbai Indians is also one of the best trade deals in IPL History. After his stint at Delhi Daredevils, DK moved to KXIP in 2011. However, the Mohali-based franchise had Adam Gilchrist as the wicket-keeper, and therefore, the Tamil Nadu man was unable to contribute fully. He came to MI and then lit up the season with some spectacular performances. The talented cricketer also earned a place back in the Indian Team after that season. Mumbai Indians won a trophy with DK behind the stumps. However, he was later released by the outfit.

5. Parthiv Patel (IPL 2015)

Ahead of IPL 2015, Mumbai Indians purchased Parthiv Patel from RCB. It was a fruitful move for the franchise. The team was struggling to have a wicket-keeper who could score runs consistently, and Parthiv filled that hole for them. Since then, Parthiv moved back to RCB and now holds a spot in the backroom staff of the serial winners Mumbai Indians.
