RCB will be among the four teams that hunt for a new captain at the IPL Mega Auction in 2025. The Royal Challengers Bangalore signed Faf du Plessis as their new skipper at the mega auction in 2022. Since then, Faf has been the captain of the team.
Although Faf has maintained his fitness, the Bangalore-based franchise would look beyond him in the next mega auction. The reason behind it is the age factor. Here’s a look at the five players RCB can target as new captain at the next mega auction.
1. RCB can target Rohit Sharma as new captain
It is a dream of millions to see Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the same IPL team. Virat will never leave RCB, but given the things that happened between Mumbai Indians and Rohit this year, the Hitman can ask for his release.
2. RCB can target KL Rahul as new captain
Ahead of IPL 2024, there were rumors claiming that RCB requested a trade of KL Rahul from Lucknow Super Giants. While the trade did not happen in 2024, it can happen in 2025 as it will be a mega auction year.
3. Steve Smith
Steve Smith has remained unsold at recent IPL auctions. RCB could have signed Smith, but they had Faf du Plessis in the team. If RCB looks beyond du Plessis, a leader like Smith can be a great choice.
4. Aiden Markram
Virat Kohli has been a fan of Aiden Markram. Sunrisers Hyderabad recently sacked him as captain. Markram may be released as well before the mega auction, allowing RCB to acquire him if needed.
5. Kane Williamson
Gujarat Titans may not retain Kane Williamson over Rashid Khan next year, allowing Kane into the auction. RCB can think of signing him and naming him as skipper.
