The base price of cricketers who have registered for IPL 2022 Mega Auctions has been announced. INR 2 crores will be the highest base price at the upcoming event. In this article, we take a look at five players who could get sold at their base price in IPL 2022 Mega-Auctions.
IPL Auctions starts off with players from INR 2 Cr bracket. Since teams have some primary targets in mind, they might not pick a few players from this pool. However, at the end of the auctions, there is a chance that these players could go under the hammer again. When teams think of buying the players at that time, usually they are unopposed. This is because other teams will also have less purse left and cannot run a risk of spending a chunk of money on a player who was not present in their initial list.
1) Umesh Yadav – INR 2 Cr
Umesh Yadav is one of the players who could get sold at their base price in IPL 2022 Mega-Auctions. The Indian pacer had a similar fate in the previous auctions. Umesh Yadav is someone who has not been in top form in T20 cricket in recent years. That said, he is an experienced bowler and might be of use on pitches that support bounce. A few teams might have him on their mind for this purpose. INR 2 Cr seems too big an amount to invest in him at the start. Hence, at the later part of the auctions, depending on the purse remaining, he can get sold at his base price.
2) Ashton Agar – INR 2 Cr
Ashton Agar could be targeted at IPL 2022 Auctions. In recent years, Agar has done well with the ball for Australia in T20I cricket. As seen in the recent Big Bash League, he can also explode with the bat. Compared to the likes of Mitchell Santner, he seems to be a better bet for teams looking to hire an overseas spin-bowling all-rounder. However, the demand might not be too great and hence, the base price could be the final bid.
3) Colin Munro – INR 1.5 Cr
Colin Munro is not being considered even by New Zealand now. That said, Munro, who is a genuine opener, has been doing well in the middle-order in recent months. Middle-order batters of good quality are rare these days. Therefore, Munro could find a team, although it could be only at his base price. The fact that he can also bowl medium pace will only improve his chances.
4) Kedar Jadhav – INR 1 Cr
Kedar Jadhav’s stocks have fallen in IPL. Having said that, on his day, Jadhav can still be backed to come good. At least, as a reserve option for middle-order, Jadhav can be a decent choice. Hence, even he could get sold at the auctions but only at his base price of INR 1 cr.
5) Wriddhiman Saha – INR 1 Cr
Wriddhiman Saha is also one of the players who could get sold at their base price in IPL 2022 Mega-Auctions. Saha did well for SRH at times but was mostly disappointing. He is a fine option behind the stumps but to use him as a batsman, Saha must open the batting. However, sometimes, he fails in that role, too. Moreover, Saha is on the wrong side of the thirties and most teams will not prefer ageing cricketers, especially those who are not T20 specialists in the first place. Therefore, he could get sold at his base price.
