MS Dhoni knows the art to bring the best out of every individual. Every player has many things to learn from the wicket-keeper batsman. Captaincy is a skill that very few cricketers have mastered, and MS Dhoni is one of them. Nine years down the line and Southee is currently leading New Zealand in T20I cricket. He is the deputy to Kane Williamson, but the Sunrisers Hyderabad star is not playing versus West Indies right now. Thus, Southee is leading the team.

2.George Bailey

George Bailey made his IPL debut for the Chennai Super Kings under MS Dhoni’s captaincy. The Australian batsman joined the CSK squad back in the 2009 season.

Three years later, Australia appointed him as their T20I skipper. Bailey captained in 28 T20Is, winning 14 and losing 14. He has retired from all forms of the game right now.

3.Mitchell Santner

The latest name to feature on this list is New Zealand’s spin-bowling all-rounder Mitchell Santner. In case you did not know, New Zealand Cricket have appointed Santner as the team’s skipper for the final T20I of the ongoing series against the West Indies team.

The high-profile series between West Indies and New Zealand got underway in Auckland earlier today. The home side emerged victorious despite Kieron Pollard’s brilliance. It will be interesting to see how the southpaw Santner performs as a captain at the international level.

4.Faf du Plessis

Very few fans might know that Faf du Plessis made his IPL debut before playing a T20I for South Africa. The right-handed batsman made his IPL debut against the Mumbai Indians at Chepauk in April 2012.

Five months later, du Plessis made his entry into the Proteas T20I team. Soon, the team management elected him as their captain. Recently, he handed over the team’s captaincy to Quinton de Kock.

5.Suresh Raina

Former Gujarat Lions captain Suresh Raina made his IPL debut for the Chennai Super Kings in 2008. He has been an integral part of the Chennai-based franchise and even earned the nickname of ‘Mr. IPL.’

Raina has been MS Dhoni’s deputy at the Chennai Super Kings. In 2010, the Ranchi-based player opted to skip a few T20I games for India. In his absence, Raina got an opportunity to lead at the international level. Thus, these are the five players who first played for CSK in IPL and then became T20I captains.
