Becoming the T20I captain of any nation is the dream of every cricketer. However, it is not everyone’s cup of tea because leading a national team is a job of utmost responsibility. The player needs to be mature enough to handle the pressure and guide his teammates.
At the same time, he also needs to focus on his personal game and make sure that the burden of captaincy does not have an impact on his own performance. Generally, the captain of any T20I team is born in the same nation only, but here’s a list of five such cricketers, who were born in one country, shifted to another nation and then became their skipper.
1. Italy’s new T20I captain – Joe Burns
Former Australian batter Joe Burns moved to Italy to pay tribute to his late brother Dominic. After playing just five T20Is for Italy, Burns has been appointed the new skipper of the Italian team now.
2. Zimbabwe’s current T20I captain – Sikandar Raza
All-rounder Sikandar Raza has been one of the main leaders in the Zimbabwean cricket team. He has captained the team in the T20I format regularly, and he hails from Pakistan.
3. Eoin Morgan
Born in Ireland, Eoin Morgan decided to move from his home country to England for a better future in cricket. The move paid off because Morgan became a very successful captain and player in T20Is as well as ODIs.
4. Monank Patel
Born in India, Monank Patel made history earlier this year when he became the first player to captain the USA team in a T20 World Cup match. USA made its T20 World Cup debut this year, and it was Monank, who led the side.
5. Josh Inglis
Josh Inglis recently led Australia to a 3-0 series win against Pakistan in the shortest format of the game on home soil. Inglis was born in England, but he represents their arch-rivals Australia in international matches.
