The Gujarat Lions joined the Indian Premier League in the year 2016 and played in two seasons. They were the ninth and the tenth editions of the competition. Some of the top players in the world like Suresh Raina, Dinesh Karthik, Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, Brendon McCullum, Ishan Kishan and Dwayne Smith played for the Rajkot-based franchise.
However, not many fans would remember that even the following five players once turned up for the Gujarat Lions team in their respective IPL careers.
1. Sarabjit Ladda
Sarabjit Ladda is a right-arm leg-break from Patiala. He has represented the Delhi Capitals and the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. Ladda also played one match for the Gujarat Lions team, where he bowled an expensive spell of 0/21 in two overs.
2. Manpreet Gony – Played 1 match for Gujarat Lions
Chennai Super Kings fans would remember Manpreet Gony because he played a match-winning role for the team in the initial seasons. Gony played one game for GL in the final phase of his career. He bowled a spell of 0/32 in two overs.
3. Irfan Pathan
Another former Chennai Super Kings player who played just one match for the GL team was Irfan Pathan. The former Indian all-rounder played his last IPL match for GL in 2017 and bowled a spell of 0/26 in two overs.
4. Dale Steyn – Played 1 match for Gujarat Lions
Former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn turned up for the Gujarat Lions in IPL 2016. GL used his services in only one match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he returned with figures of 0/17 in two overs.
5. Munaf Patel
The last name to appear on the list is Munaf Patel who played two matches for the Rajkot-based franchise. Patel took one wicket for the team. It proved to be his last IPL season.
