Bangladesh cricket team is in desperate need of a new head coach after Chandika Hathurusingha’s failure to inspire the team to success in the 2023 World Cup. The Tigers became the first team to be eliminated from the race to the semifinals after suffering six defeats in a row.
It seems highly unlikely that Bangladesh will even qualify for the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan. It looks like Bangladesh needs a reboot, and the first thing they must do is change the coach. Here are five players who can become the new coach.
1. Virender Sehwag can become new coach of Bangladesh
The Tigers need someone who can control the team well and does not tolerate any nonsense in the dressing room. Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag is a no-nonsense player. He has coached Punjab Kings in the IPL before and can be considered for this role.
2. Wasim Jaffer can become new coach of Bangladesh
Another former Indian opener to feature on the list is Wasim Jaffer. He has worked with the young talents of Bangladesh as a batting mentor. He understands their cricket well and can help them a lot.
3. Mashrafe Mortaza
Former Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza is one of the most respected names in the Asian nation. If needed, the BCB can ask him to be the coach for some time and bring the team back on track.
4. Wasim Akram
Wasim Akram has a lot of experience under his belt. He knows how to bring the best out of the players. Akram is working as a commentator right now, but if BCB approaches him, he can join them.
5. Shoaib Akhtar
Shoaib Akhtar recently showed his readiness to become the new PCB head, showing that he is interested in returning to cricket in some role. Akhtar can revive Bangladesh cricket with his unique methods and tactics.
