IPL 2024 preparations have started already as teams have started to think about their coaches and backroom staff members. According to a report by Cricbuzz, Andy Flower’s contract as the head coach of the Lucknow Super Giants ended in IPL 2023. Now, the franchise is thinking about bringing in Justin Langer as their head coach.
Besides, Delhi Capitals have also decided to release Ajit Agarkar and Shane Watson as their assistant coaches. There is a possibility of some changes in the coaching staffs of other teams as well. Here’s a look at five retired players who can return to their old franchises as coaches in IPL 2024.
1. Lasith Malinga may return to Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024
Lasith Malinga is the bowling coach of the Rajasthan Royals. However, in his entire IPL career, Malinga played for the Mumbai Indians only. Now, he has joined MI New York as a coach, and he may return to MI in IPL as well.
2. Gautam Gambhir may return to Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024
Rumors are wild on social media that Gautam Gambhir is in talks with the Kolkata Knight Riders for the next season. It is unclear whether the rumors are true or not but it will be a grand homecoming if it happens.
3. Eoin Morgan may return to Punjab Kings
Eoin Morgan had a short stint with the Punjab Kings as a player. There were rumors of him joining a team as a coach in IPL 2023 but they were not true. PBKS have struggled a lot in IPL, and an expert tactician like Morgan can help them get back on track.
4. Shane Watson may return to Rajasthan Royals
Shane Watson has left the Delhi Capitals as their assistant coach. He had a lengthy stint with RR in the past. Perhaps, RR can rehire him in a different capacity now.
