IPL 2021 will be full of star players like Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Sanju Samson, KL Rahul, Eoin Morgan, Andre Russell, Rishabh Pant, David Warner, and many others. Every year, the big names from all over the world assemble at one place to play in the IPL. Because of this reason, IPL is considered the world’s toughest T20 competition.

The reason why cricketers worldwide prefer competing in the IPL is that it gives them exposure and also helps them earn big money. Unfortunately, some star players will not be there at IPL 2021. These match-winners will be definitely missed by the fans, and here are the reasons why some star players will not play in IPL 2021.

5. One of the biggest Indian star players missing out on IPL 2021 – Shreyas Iyer

Starting with the most popular name on this list, the Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer will miss the entire IPL 2021 season because of his injury. Iyer led the Capitals to their first-ever IPL Final in 2020.

However, just a few weeks before the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League, Shreyas Iyer injured his shoulder. The Delhi Capitals have confirmed that Iyer would not play for them in the 14th IPL season. As a result, the DC franchise will have to elect a new captain soon.

4. Mark Wood

Mark Wood has played only one IPL game in his career so far. He made his IPL debut for the Chennai Super Kings in 2018, but he has been away from the league since then.

The English pacer impressed everyone in the T20I series against India. He had even registered himself for the auction. However, just a few hours before the auction, Wood decided to pull out. As per a report in Cricbuzz, Wood wished to spend some quality time with his family.

3. Joe Root

Although he is one of the best players of this era, Joe Root has never made it to the IPL. Every year, the fans expect IPL teams to sign him because he is an all-rounder and also an experienced captaincy option.

However, Joe Root himself decided against registering for the auction this year. Here’s what Root had to say about his decision:

“I am desperate to be part of an IPL season and hopefully a few more beyond, with the amount of Test cricket in particular this year, it didn’t feel like it was the right time and I didn’t feel like I could throw all my energy into it, which I think it deserves.”

2. Dale Steyn

Dale Steyn was the first player to pull out of IPL 2021. The South African speedster informed via Twitter that he did not want to play in the IPL, but it did not mean he was retiring.

Later, Steyn turned up in the Lanka Premier League and Pakistan Super League. He even stated that the emphasis was more on cricket in these two leagues, while in IPL, it was more on money. As a result, Steyn played these two tournaments but not IPL.

1. One of the top foreign star players to miss IPL 2021 – Mitchell Starc

Mitchell Starc is one of the most feared fast bowlers in the world at the moment. The left-arm pacer, however, has stayed away from the IPL since the 2015 season.

Either injury issues or personal reasons have not allowed Starc to play in the IPL. This year, he decided to skip the event because he wished to play the Sheffield Shield in Australia and win the competition.
