The Gujarat-based bowler has made a name for himself with his consistent performances for the country in all three formats of cricket. Courtesy of his excellence, the selectors named him as the vice-captain of India for the ODI series against South Africa.

2. Bhuvneshwar Kumar – Vice-captain in ODIs and T20Is against Sri Lanka

Another right-arm fast bowler who played the vice-captain’s role in limited-overs cricket for India recently was Bhuvneshwar Kumar. He was the deputy skipper in the squad that toured Sri Lanka for three ODIs and three T20Is last year.

3. Anil Kumble – Test captain in 2007-08

After Rahul Dravid lost his captaincy, Anil Kumble captained India for some time in 2007-08 before MS Dhoni took over as captain in Tests. Kumble led India in 14 Tests.

4. Srinivasaraghavan Venkataraghavan – Captained Indian team in first 2 World Cups

Srinivasaraghavan Venkataraghavan led Team India in the first two World Cups that happened in 1975 and 1979. He was a right-arm off-spinner, and under his captaincy, India achieved their first World Cup win over East Africa.

5. Bishan Singh Bedi – Captained in 4 ODIs

During 1975-78, left-arm spin bowler Bishan Singh Bedi led the Indian side in four ODIs, where the country registered one win. Interestingly, no bowler has led India in T20Is yet.
