The Chennai Super Kings have been home to some of the best cricketers in the world. They have set new benchmarks for consistency with their phenomenal performances in the IPL. The highlight of their IPL journey so far has been the fact that they have qualified for playoffs in ten seasons. Unfortunately, CSK will miss out on the Top 4 this year.
However, captain MS Dhoni is trying to make the most out of the situation by giving the youngsters a chance to prove their talents. CSK have many young talented players in their team, but the management preferred experience over youth in the first phase of IPL 2020. Nevertheless, the youngsters are now performing well, and here’s a look at the top five youngest batsmen to score a fifty for CSK in IPL.
5.Anirudha Srikkanth – 23 years and 360 days
Uncapped Indian top-order Anirudha Srikkanth played in the IPL for the Chennai Super Kings. In the first match of IPL 2011, Anirudha scored a brilliant fifty against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Because of his half-century, CSK managed to win the match by a close margin of two runs. Srikkanth did not achieve much success later in his career, but he is the fifth youngest to score a half-ton for the Super Kings.
4.Ruturaj Gaikwad – 23 years and 268 days
The latest entrant on this list the Indian top order batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad. After failing to do well in his first few matches, Gaikwad impressed one and all with his batting against RCB.
The uncapped player scored a confident fifty that powered the Super Kings to an 8-wicket win over their rivals. Gaikwad also won the Player of the Match award for his inning.
3.Parthiv Patel – 23 years and 65 days
The fans might know that Parthiv Patel played for the Chennai Super Kings in the first three seasons of IPL. He kept the wickets for the Super Kings and opened the innings for the team.
Parthiv recorded his maiden IPL half-century against the Rajasthan Royals. Although CSK lost the match by ten runs, Parthiv won the hearts with his 40-ball 54.
2.Sam Curran – 22 years and 140 days
One of the only two players to score a fifty for the Chennai Super Kings under the age of 23 years is Sam Curran. He is the youngest overseas player to hit a half-century for the 3-time IPL champions.
Curran achieved this feat against the Mumbai Indians recently at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. After CSK’s top order collapsed, Sam’s fifty saved the day for CSK, but it could not avoid an embarrassing defeat.
1.Suresh Raina – 21 years and 147 days
Suresh Raina remains the youngest batsman to score a half-century for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. The left-handed batsman scored a fifty in his second IPL match only.
Raina was 21 years and 147 days old when he scored a 37-ball 53 against MI. Interestingly, the youngest batsmen to score a fifty for CSK did so against the Mumbai-based franchise. Raina missed IPL 2020 because of personal reasons. It will be intriguing to see if he is available to play in 2021 or not.
