Qualifying for the finals of ICC events is the dream of every cricketer who starts playing international cricket. However, not everyone is successful in achieving it. Some of the finest players of the game never made it to the finals of any ICC events because their team could not perform up to the mark.
On the other side, there have been some excellent cricketers who qualified for finals of more than five ICC events. The major ICC events are the World Test Championship, Cricket World Cup, T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy. 1. Kumar Sangakkara qualified for 6 finals of ICC events
Former Sri Lankan wicket-keeper batter Kumar Sangakkara qualified for the finals in six different tournaments. He was a part of the Sri Lankan squad that won the T20 World Cup in 2014.
2. Mahela Jayawardene qualified for finals of 6 ICC events
Another former Sri Lankan cricketer present on this list is Mahela Jayawardene. The former Sri Lankan skipper also made it to six finals and won T20 World Cup 2014.
3. Ricky Ponting qualified for finals of 6 ICC events
Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting is one of the most successful cricketers of all time. Like Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene, Ponting played in six finals.
4. Rohit Sharma
Current Indian skipper Rohit Sharma will play his sixth ICC event final in June. He successfully led India to the World Test Championship Final against Australia in 2023.
5. Virat Kohli
Sharma’s teammate Virat Kohli will also be playing his sixth final at the international level. Kohli was a member of the squad that won CWC 2011 and Champions Trophy 2013.
6. Yuvraj Singh
The record for the highest appearances in ICC tournament’s final matches belongs to Yuvraj Singh. The former Indian all-rounder was a part of seven squads that made it to finals.
