IPL franchises signed many overseas stars after they performed well for other teams in the CLT20. There were also occasions when players playing for IPL teams turned up for other teams in CLT20.

    1. AB de Villiers played for Titans in Champions League T20 in 2013

    South African T20 franchise Titans made it to the CLT20 in 2013. The team featured the likes of AB de Villiers, Morne Morkel, David Wiese and Farhaan Behardien.

    AB de Villiers played against CSK in Match 3 of the competition, and he destroyed the Super Kings bowling attack. He scored 77 runs off 36 balls, smashing three fours and seven sixes in Ranchi. However, Titans could not qualify for the next round.

    2. David Miller

    David Miller represented English county Yorkshire in the 2012 Champions League T20. The South African batter played with the likes of Joe Root, Gary Ballance and Adil Rashid in that team.

    Even Yorkshire played a match with CSK. Suresh Raina captained CSK despite MS Dhoni’s presence. Both Yorkshire and CSK failed to make it to the semifinals that year.

    3. Kieron Pollard played for Trinidad and Tobago in Champions League T20 2009

    Trinidad and Tobago finished as the runners-up in CLT20 2009. Kieron Pollard played a huge role in their success during the competition.

    He finished as the tournament 5th highest run-scorer, with 146 runs in six matches. Pollard soon earned a contract from the Mumbai Indians.

    4. Chris Morris

    Highveld Lions performed brilliantly in CLT20 2012/13. They finished second in their group and qualified for the semifinals. However, they lost the final to Sydney Sixers.

    Chris Morris played for the Lions that year. He picked up six wickets in six matches at an economy rate of less than 8. Also, he scored 34 runs at a strike rate of 136.

    Another current IPL star who played for the Highveld Lions in 2012/13 was Quinton de Kock. He was one of the top run-scorers for the team.

    The wicket-keeper batsman played six matches, scoring 104 runs. Currently, de Kock plays for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League.

    6. David Warner played for New South Wales in Champions League T20

    New South Wales won the 2009 edition of the Champions League T20 competition. David Warner was the 2nd highest run-getter in that tourney, with 207 runs.

    In 2011, he represented the New South Wales again and ended as the best batsman of the tournament. Warner scored 328 runs, including a century against RCB.
