Before IPL 2020 started, many predicted that KKR would be in the playoffs. With a solid batting line-up combined and a promising bowling unit, expectations from KKR were high.

However, the franchise disappointed their admirers. With inconsistent performances and lackluster decision-making, KKR lost track early in the tournament. Although they did put up points, they were still off the mark.

Hence, if a mega-auction takes place in 2021, KKR might be actually keen. While they would back a few players, they could get a chance to improve a few positions. On that note, here are six players KKR must target if there is a mega-auction next year.

1. Manish Pandey

There is a reason why we want Manish Pandey back at KKR. He was in good form there, and more importantly, the franchise needs an Indian captaincy figure. Dinesh Karthik would not captain again, and having a foreign captain could affect the balance. Hence, KKR must go hard for Manish at the upcoming auctions. He is a natural leader, and a good presence to have at No.3. That said, all of the above can happen only if SRH decides to let go of their costly asset.

2. Jonny Bairstow

SRH might not opt for a foreign opening combination again. With Saha finding success, the franchise might try the same for next season. Hence, Bairstow could be released by them. If that happens, KKR must sign him. A backup wicket-keeper firstly, the Englishman would be the ideal foil to Shubman Gill at the top. On his day, Bairstow can be destructive, and with a plethora of similar talent in the roster, he would strengthen KKR massively.

3. Marcus Stoinis

The only reason why KKR must sign Marcus Stoinis is that he could be a backup for Andre Russell. In 2020, DreRuss got himself injured, and KKR’s balance went haywire. To avoid such happenings, a player like Stoinis on the bench would be ideal. That said, Stoinis himself is a quality bloke and might as well open the innings for KKR if required. He is a success at that position, and KKR could try it out if the auction dynamics permit.

4. Jason Holder

KKR employed Pat Cummins at No.7 in IPL 2020. Pat is definitely a good batsman but is noway an option at No.7, especially in the T20 format. While that’s about his batting, the Aussie also lacked a consistent bowling partner this season. Jason Holder is someone who could do that, and going by his performances for SRH so far, he is more than suited for the role. Of course, Jason might not extract a starting spot in the XI, but he will be a great character to have on the bench. And, on pitches with some bounce, he can be lethal if drafted into the team.

5. Ishant Sharma

Despite having three good young Indian bowlers, it seemed that KKR missed a trick somewhere. An experienced Indian bowler alongside Pat Cummins would have aided the balance a long way. If you go looking for such a player around the country, the best option seems Ishant Sharma. The Delhi-pacer could be released by the Capitals, and KKR must resign him back next season. While Ishant can guide the young pacers, he can also do the job when required. His presence on the field can add a lot of value to the unit.

6. Mandeep Singh

KKR like to float their batsmen, but unfortunately, they tried this on the wrong guys. Moves like playing Rahul Tripathi at No.7 and Tom Banton at No.3 have all failed this season. However, a guy like Mandeep Singh would fit perfectly into this strategy. He has played at almost every batting position and can be the missing link in KKR’s batting unit. The Punjab-player can do exceptionally well if given confidence, and if it happens at KKR, he will surely come good.
