KL Rahul has seemingly lost his place as the vice-captain of the Indian Test squad. In the latest media release by the BCCI where they announced the Indian squads for the remainder of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against the Australian cricket team, Rahul does not have the vice-captain tag near his name.

It looks like the board has sacked him from that position after a string of poor performances in Test cricket. BCCI did not name a new vice-captain in the press release, but they will have to groom someone under Rohit Sharma who can take the team forward or even lead the team in upcoming matches whenever Sharma is not available. Here’s a list of six options who could replace KL Rahul.

    1. Cheteshwar Pujara can replace KL Rahul

Veteran Indian Test batter Cheteshwar Pujara recently completed 100 Test matches for India. He has been the vice-captain in the past, and there is no reason why he should receive that role again.

    2. Ravichandran Ashwin can replace KL Rahul

Very few players have a cricketing brain like Ravichandran Ashwin. He enjoys playing Test cricket, which is why he is a contender to become India’s next vice-captain.

    3. Jasprit Bumrah can replace KL Rahul

Jasprit Bumrah captained India in a Test against England last year. If he can maintain his fitness, he could become the new vice-captain.

    4. Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli shockingly stepped down as India’s Test captain last year. However, the management has changed now, and there is a slight possibility of seeing Kohli back in the leadership role again.

    5. Shreyas Iyer

If India wants to prepare a future Test captain, Shreyas Iyer is a great option. He has done well in IPL and has a lot of years left in his career as well.

The wildcard option for this race will be Jaydev Unadkat. The left-arm pace bowler has done a phenomenal job as a leader for Saurashtra.
