T20 cricket is one of the most-followed formats of the sport. Over the last 15 years, the popularity of this game has increased significantly, and now almost every nation has its own league in this format. One of the main reasons behind the popularity of this format is that the batters play risky shots frequently and entertain the spectators with the big hits.
When this format was new, fans assumed that the teams would look to score 150-160 runs in 20 overs and then try to defend it. However, the batters have taken run-scoring to the next level as there have been six such instances in the history of cricket, where a batter scored more than 160 runs in a single 20-over innings. Here’s a list of those six batters:
1. Adam Lyth – 161
In a match between Yorkshire and Northants during the 2017 T20 Blast, Adam Lyth scored 161 runs for Yorkshire. He smashed 20 fours and seven sixes in his 73-ball knock.
2. Dewald Brevis – 162
Nicknamed as Baby AB, Dewald Brevis scored 162 runs for Titans while playing against the Knights in CSA T20 Challenge. His 57-ball innings consisted of 13 fours and 13 sixes.
3. Hazratullah Zazai – 162*
Dewald Brevis was not the first player to score exactly 162 runs in a match. Before him, there were two other players. One of them was Afghanistan’s Hazratullah Zazai, who achieved the feat against Ireland in 2019.
4. Hamilton Masakadza – 162*
Veteran Zimbabwean batter Hamilton Masakadza aggregated 162 runs while playing in a domestic match for Mountaineers against Eagles in the year 2016.
5. Aaron Finch – 172
Australian captain Aaron Finch owns the record for the highest individual score in T20I cricket. Playing against Zimbabwe, he scored 172 runs in 2018.
6. Highest individual score in T20 cricket: Chris Gayle – 175*
Universe Boss Chris Gayle holds the prestigious record of scoring the most runs in one innings. Playing against Pune Warriors in 2013, Gayle scored 175 off just 66 balls, hitting 13 fours and 17 maximums.
