Gujarat Titans suffered a major blow in their first match of IPL 2023 as Kane Williamson got injured while trying to stop a six on the boundary rope. Williamson attempted to pull off a fantastic save, but he could not execute it to perfection and landed badly on the ground.
Gujarat Titans have confirmed that Kane Williamson will not participate in the remainder of IPL 2023 because of the injury. The defending champions will now have to sign a replacement. Here’s a list of the six such players whom GT could consider signing:
1. Dasun Shanaka can replace Kane Williamson in IPL 2023
Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka is one of the top T20 players in the world right now. He fits the template that Gujarat Titans play in IPL matches. Shanaka can be a fantastic addition to the team, and he can also help Hardik Pandya in the captaincy department.
2. Rassie van der Dussen can replace Kane Williamson in IPL 2023
Rassie van der Dussen is a player whose game is similar to Williamson. He can play the anchor’s role well for the Gujarat Titans.
3. Chris Lynn can replace Kane Williamson in IPL 2023
Australian batter Chris Lynn is a specialist of the shorter formats of the game. Lynn has immense IPL experience under his belt. GT can consider signing him as a backup opening option for Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha.
4. Travis Head
Australian batter Travis Head was quite successful on his recent tour of India. Head is a top-order batter who can also bowl some overs of spin if needed. He can be an asset for GT.
5. Dawid Malan
Former world number one T20I batter Dawid Malan also has a game like Williamson. He can bat at number three for Gujarat Titans and play the anchor’s role to perfection.
6. Jason Roy
Gujarat Titans signed Jason Roy last year, but he did not show up to play. If GT are still interested in his services, they can consider signing him as a replacement for Williamson in IPL 2023.
