The 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League will be one of the biggest editions of the competition. Marking the 15th campaign of the competition, IPL 2022 will involve two more teams. However, amidst this, a few players have got themselves unavailable for the event. In this article, we take a look at the list of seven popular players who will miss IPL 2022.
It is a usual occurrence for a few players to give IPL a miss. The foreigners usually decide between their commitments and hence, at times, they pull out of the league. Of course, injuries also play a part in these cricketers arriving at the decision.
1) Chris Gayle
Chris Gayle is one of the big names who will not take part in IPL 2022. One of the most popular players of IPL, in recent years, Gayle has had a hard time getting games. In IPL 2021, he also left the league in the middle due to bio-bubble fatigue. Considering this reason and the fact that teams might not show interest in him, Gayle has decided not to enter the auctions.
2) Ben Stokes
Ben Stokes is one of the players who will miss IPL 2022. The English all-rounder recently returned from a long break. However, in the Ashes, he was not at his best. In order to give his full commitment to the English red-ball squad, Stokes has made himself unavailable for the tournament. Had he been in the auctions, he would have gone for a big sum because he is an elite all-rounder in the game currently.
3) Jofra Archer
Jofra Archer missed IPL 2021 due to an injury and he is still on the road to recovery. Hence, he will miss IPL 2022. Interestingly, he has registered himself for IPL 2022 Auctions. It needs to be seen if anyone would pick him up in the auctions.
4) Sam Curran
Sam Curran is also one of the players who will miss IPL 2022. The youngster suffered an injury during the UAE leg of IPL 2021. This made him miss the T20 World Cup and the Ashes. Although he has recovered now, it is said that he has not been allowed to take part in IPL 2022.
5) Mitchell Starc
Before the start of every season, there is a story on whether Starc would be a part of the league. It has been a while since the Aussie has taken part in IPL. Although he was close to signing up for the upcoming season, at the last moment, he has pulled out. He will now prepare for the busy cricketing season for Australia.
6) Chris Woakes
Chris Woakes has also missed a couple of IPL seasons so far. He will also miss IPL 2022. However, unlike the other players, teams will not miss his presence. There are suitable replacements available for him in the market.
7) Kyle Jamieson
Kyle Jamieson was one of the costliest signings in IPL 2021. However, he will not take part in IPL 2022 because he wants to spend more time with his family. Had he registered also, it is unlikely that the Kiwi would have received similar interest like in 2021.
