    With five wickets in the first inning, Ravi Ashwin became only the third Indian bowler to take 700 wickets in international cricket. However, after taking seven more wickets in the second inning, Ashwin has now become the second-highest wicket-taker for India across all three formats. Ashwin went past former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh’s tally of 708 internationals. That 36-year-old has now taken 78 wickets in his career, only behind Anil Kumble.

    Joint-Most Fifers in IND vs WI Tests

    Prior to this game, Ashwin had four five-wicket hauls against the West Indies. But after taking two fifers in two innings of the first test, Ashwin has now taken the joint most five-wicket hauls by a bowler in IND-WI Test matches. Former West Indian legend Malcolm Marshall also had six five-wicket hauls against India. Ashwin has taken 72 wickets in 12 tests against the Caribbean team.

    Joint-Most 12-wicket-hails in Test Cricket

    Ashwin ended the first test with a 12-wicket haul. This is his sixth 12-wicket haul in his Test career. With this, he has equaled the all-time record of Muttiah Muralitharan’s tally of six 12-wicket hauls in Test Cricket. The Indian off-spinner surpassed Rangana Herath, who had five in his career.

    Best Bowling Figure by a spinner in Test in West Indies

    With five and seven wickets in two innings, Ashwin ended up with a match figure of 12/156. Notably, he registered the best match figure by a spinner in the West Indies in a test. The previous record was held by former Pakistani off-spinner Saeed Ajmal with 11/111 in 2011.

    Ashwin is probably the best spinner in modern-day cricket and one of the best of all time. He has already achieved a lot in his career. Notably, he registered his eighth Ten-wicket haul in the first game against the West Indies, which is the joint-most for India in test cricket. Anil Kumble also had eight 10-wicket hauls in his career.

    First Indian to dismiss Father and Son in Tests

    Ashwin dismissed Tagenarine Chanderpaul in the first innings of the first test and registered a unique record. He became the first Indian to dismiss both father and son in Test Cricket. Before this, he dismissed Shivnarine Chanderpaul in his debut test in 2011. Overall, Ashwin is the fifth bowler to do so, after Ian Botham, Wasim Akram, Mitchell Starc, and Simon Harmer.

    Ashwin’s best bowling figure in an innings is 7/59, which came at home. On the other hand, with his 7/71 in the second innings against the West Indies, the off-spinner registered his best bowling figure in an away game.
