8 Indian batsmen who scored a fifty on IPL debut match

The Indian Premier League has served as a perfect platform for the upcoming Indian players to show their skills to the cricket universe. Many players have made a name for themselves in world cricket after impressing in the IPL. The likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Deepak Chahar, Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Rishabh Pant, and several other players owe their success to the IPL.

One of the best things about the IPL is its cut-throat competition level. Even the new players need to impress in the first few opportunities that they receive, otherwise they lose their spot to the other players. Here’s a look at the eight Indian batsmen who left a positive first impression after scoring a fifty on their IPL debut.

1.Swapnil Asnodkar

The Rajasthan Royals had won the first season of IPL, and uncapped batsman Swapnil Asnodkar played an integral role in their success. The top-order batsman had made his IPL debut against Kolkata Knight Riders in Jaipur.

He opened the innings along with the then South African skipper Graeme Smith. While Smith lost his wicket early, Asnodkar stabilized the innings with a 34-ball 60. His magnificent performance helped RR beat KKR by 45 runs, and he rightfully won the Man of the Match award.

2.Gautam Gambhir

Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir had won two IPL trophies as a captain with the Kolkata Knight Riders. He even represented the Delhi-based franchise in the IPL.

Making his IPL debut as a part of DD in IPL 2008, Gambhir scored a decent 46-ball 58* to help his team defeat RR in the third match of the IPL. Gambhir hit seven fours and a six in his knock.

3.Shikhar Dhawan

In the same match, current Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan also scored a half-century on debut. The Rajasthan Royals could score only 129/8 in their 20 overs.

In reply, Gambhir and Dhawan stitched an unbeaten partnership of 112 runs for the 2nd wicket as DD won by nine wickets. Dhawan remained not out on 52.

4.Devdutt Padikkal

The most recent entrant on this list is the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s upcoming star Devdutt Padikkal. The left-handed batsman scored a 42-ball 56 against Sunrisers Hyderabad on IPL debut.

Padikkal has impressed a lot in IPL 2020 so far. It will be interesting to see if the youngster can help RCB win their first IPL title this year.

5.Ambati Rayudu

Ambati Rayudu began his IPL career as a part of the Mumbai Indians team in 2010. He played in the IPL for MI until the 2017 season.

Rayudu had made his IPL debut against the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2010. He scored a 33-ball 55 and took MI to a score of 212/6. In the end, Mumbai won by four runs.

6.S Vidyut

Sivaramakrishnan Vidyut had made his debut for the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2008. The uncapped batsman batted at number three for CSK.

He scored a magnificent 37-ball 54. Unfortunately, CSK lost that game to Delhi by eight wickets. The left-handed batsman Vidyut could play only eight more games in the IPL.

7.Shreevats Goswami

Uncapped wicket-keeper batsman Shreevats Goswami has been a part of the Indian Premier League since 2008. He played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore team in the first season.

On his IPL debut against the Delhi Daredevils, Goswami scored a 42-ball 52. However, Delhi beat RCB by five wickets eventually. The wicket-keeper is a part of SRH now.

8.Kedar Jadhav

The last name to feature on this list of the current Chennai Super Kings player Kedar Jadhav. While Jadhav has struggled to get going in IPL 2020, he was in excellent touch during the past seasons.

In his first IPL match, Jadhav smacked a 29-ball 50 against RCB. He hit five fours and two maximums in his knock that powered Delhi to a 17-runs victory.
