Star Sports has been the home of the Indian Premier League since 2018. They bought the rights to telecast the IPL matches on their network from 2018 to 2023 for a massive amount. Unlike the previous broadcasters of the league, Star offered a unique coverage of the league named the Star Sports Select Dugout.
It featured less commercial breaks and more analysis. During the end of an over or a fall of a wicket, the cricket experts would analyze the game and offer their views. They would also offer some valuable tips to the youngsters watching on TV to improve their game. Also, there would be banters and prediction polls that would make the IPL matches more interesting.
However, in 2022, the Star Sports panel has decided to scrap the Select Dugout. There has been no official update regarding the same but reports have surfaced online claiming that there will be no Select Dugout for IPL 2022.
Some fans have opined that the reason behind it could be the unavailability of some experts from the previous panel. They have now either taken up coaching roles or are in a new role in their lives now. Here’s how Twitter reacted to the news.
