The journey of Bangladesh at the ongoing T20 World Cup so far has been full of drama. The team and their fans have not been satisfied with the umpiring as multiple decisions went against their way. The most recent comes from the ongoing match between Pakistan and Bangladesh, where skipper Shakib Al Hasan was given out in a doubtful decision.

The incident happened in the 11th over when Shakib entered the field to bat following the dismissal of Soumya Sarkar. On the very first ball, Shadab Khan hit Shakib’s pads and the on-field umpire gave it out. However, DRS showed the ball edged the bat before hitting the stumps.

But the third umpire was confused as to whether the ball hit the ground or if it was an inside edge. Hence, the umpire made the decision in Pakistan’s favour considering the soft signal. This left the Bangladeshi skipper frustrated as he got involved in an animated chat before walking off the field for a golden duck. Fans are not taking it easy at bashing the ICC for biased decisions.

There were debates over the umpiring even in Bangladesh’s clash with India when Virat Kohli’s appeal was accepted by the leg-umpire to signal a no-ball. The second one being the umpires’ decision to restart the game despite having rainfall and wet outfield, just because India were in a difficult position. The third was when Bangladeshi wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan accused Kohli of ‘fake fielding’.

Following the upset faced by South Africa against the Netherlands, qualification for the semis is quite open. The winner between Pakistan and Bangladesh will head into the next round of the tournament.
