CSK confirms retentions for IPL 2022

As expected, CSK has decided to utilize all four retention cards before the mega-auction. There were doubts if MS Dhoni would continue to play. However, he is now all set to captain the four-time champions for yet another edition of IPL.

Ravindra Jadeja has become an elite cricketer in recent years and there is no surprise in his retention. Similarly, after winning the Orange Cap in IPL 2021, Ruturaj Gaikwad was also likely to be retained by the franchise.

Other teams will target the likes of Faf and Curran

Faf du Plessis and Suresh Raina are popular names that have not been retained by CSK. While Faf has been CSK’s best performer in recent years, Suresh Raina enjoys a cult association with CSK. However, CSK has taken the decision to release them in unavoidable circumstances.

Having won the trophy, many CSK players will be in great demand. The likes of Sam Curran, Faf du Plessis, Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur could go for a handsome amount. Of course, CSK itself will be looking to buy back a few cricketers who have done so well for them. Suresh Raina’s form may not be great but he will still be a useful signing for most teams. He is experienced and could roll back the years if he finds the confidence.
