In a disappointing development for all the Chennai Super Kings fans, the team’s star all-rounder Deepak Chahar has reportedly been ruled out of IPL 2022. Earlier, reports claimed that Chahar would recover from his quadricep tear and return to the IPL on April 25. However, ESPNCricinfo reported earlier today that Chahar has now picked up a back injury.

The fast bowler, who received a massive contract from the Chennai Super Kings at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction, was recovering well from his quadricep tear, but a new back injury put a question mark over his participation. According to PTI, Chahar has been ruled out of IPL 2022.

“While CSK have always claimed that their Rs 14 crore buy would be fit before the second week of April, the seriousness of the tear was such that there was “no chance of his availability” in the tournament. According to sources, the India and CSK bowler suffered the back injury during his rehab at the NCA in Bengaluru,” a report from PTI states.

Who will replace Deepak Chahar in the Chennai Super Kings squad?

The Chennai Super Kings are winless in IPL 2022 so far. The Chennai-based franchise have played four games and registered four defeats. With Chahar not available for the tournament, the Super Kings may look to sign a replacement now.

It will be interesting to see whether CSK opt for a batter or a bowler as a replacement. Suresh Raina went unsold at the auction, but there is a chance he may return as Chahar’s replacement.

Other available options from the list of unsold Indian fast bowlers are Ishant Sharma, Dhawal Kulkarni, Roosh Kalaria, Mohit Sharma and Sandeep Warrier. Sharma is a former CSK player, while Warrier has done well in domestic cricket. CSK might announce a replacement for Chahar soon.
