Here is the reason why Suresh Raina is not playing against DC
Since CSK had already qualified for the playoffs, MS Dhoni had made a few changes in the last game against Rajasthan Royals. However, the absence of Deepak Chahar backfired as CSK eventually lost the game. While Deepak is back in the squad, Raina missed out.
Dhoni divulged that Raina has a back issue and hence, is not playing against Delhi. He further said that it is important to rest players who have niggles as this could become a concerning factor in the playoffs. Although Raina’s form is disappointing, he is still an experienced player and will be backed to come good in the deciding stages.
CSK aiming for a Top 2 spot
Chennai Super Kings has arguably been the best team in IPL 2021. The team seems to have all bases covered and is all set to add the fourth IPL trophy to its collection. Before that, though, CSK will be wary of teams that are peaking at the moment. Hence, they would want to ensure a Top 2 finish so that they will have another chance if they fail in Qualifier 1.
Although the batting form of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja looks good, CSK could worry about MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina. If the veteran-duo could come good, Chennai Super Kings will become stronger. CSK would also want Josh Hazlewood to do well in the important games.
