The Cricket World Cup 2023 is all set to get started in two weeks. England will face New Zealand in the opening encounter on October 5 in Ahmedabad. Ten teams will compete in the tournament, which will have 48 games. Some teams have already revealed their World Cup squads.
There are other teams that have yet to reveal their squads. Pakistan is such a team that hasn’t announced their squads. Pakistan’s poor performance in the recently concluded Asia Cup 2023 can be one of the reasons behind that. Pakistan was the favorite to win the Asia Cup before the start.
But they finished the tournament at No. 4, behind Bangladesh. They suffered a massive loss by 228 runs against India, followed by a defeat against Sri Lanka, which kicked them out of the tournament. Some of the key players didn’t perform well in the tournament.
Vice captain Shadab Khan is one such player who had a poor tournament. He played all five games, scored 13 runs with the bat at 4.33, and took six wickets at an average of 40.83. That performance has certainly had a negative impact on his place in the World Cup squad.
According to GeoNews, it has been learned that Pakistan is looking to drop Shadab Khan and pick mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed in his place for the World Cup in India. As soon as this news was circulated on social media, fans started talking about it. Shadab has been the vice captain of the team for a long time now.
