Mayank won the toss and invited the Royal Challengers Bangalore to have a bat first. A magnificent 88-run knock from RCB captain Faf du Plessis inspired the team to a 205-run total in the first innings. The wicket looked good for batting, which is why Punjab Kings were not out of the match despite RCB’s great batting.

Chasing 206 runs, Punjab got off to a fantastic start thanks to Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan. Bhanuka Rajapaksa played an impressive cameo on IPL debut, while Shahrukh Khan and Odean Smith provided the finishing touch. PBKS scored 208/5 in 19 overs to win the match.

“Two points for us is very important. Nice to start on a winning note. Very good wicket – chasing 200+ is never easy but I thought we batted really well. It held up just the one or two balls but it was a very good wicket and it got better batting second with the dew,” the PBKS captain said after the match.
