Wanindu Hasaranga has been the talk of the town after the Royal Challengers Bangalore signed him for a massive 10.75 crore at the IPL 2022 Auction. Many cricket fans were confused when RCB bid big for Hasaranga but ignored their proven match-winner Yuzvendra Chahal at the mega auction.
Chahal had been a game-changer for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL since 2014, but the Bangalore-based franchise decided against retaining him and then did not re-sign him at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. Wanindu Hasaranga was under enormous pressure to prove himself, and the Sri Lankan star has done an excellent job for the team so far.
At the moment, Chahal is the number one bowler in the race to win the IPL 2022 Purple Cap. Hasaranga is right behind him with just one wicket lesser than him. Earlier today, in the match between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Hasaranga scalped a five-wicket haul to power RCB to a big win.
Speaking with the host broadcasters after his team’s big loss against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson was quoted as saying as follows by Cricbuzz:
“It’s been quite a challenge for us, we need to come up with ways to reverse that pressure and turnaround. These have been par totals, the batting has been quality, but as a unit there are areas to touch on. I think earlier in the competition when there was assistance with the new ball we were certainly very threatening.”
