Jason Roy has received a unique punishment from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). The ECB have not revealed the real reason for the ban, but they have banned him for two matches. Interestingly, they have suspended the ban for 12 months depending on the good behavior of the cricket team.
Roy is one of the top openers in white-ball cricket right now. He has made a name for himself with his explosive batting performances. The right-handed batter provides solid starts to his team in the powerplay overs. He was a member of the England squad that won the ICC World Cup 2019 and finished runners-up in ICC T20 World Cup 2016.
While Roy is a fantastic player, he seems to have landed himself in some trouble now. According to the latest press release by ECB, Roy has been fined GBP 2,500 and handed a two-match ban. He will be banned for two matches which is eligible to play, depending upon his behavior in 12 months. Here is the statement from the England and Wales Cricket Board:
“The Cricket Discipline Commission has announced its sanction on Roy after he admitted a charge of conducting himself in a manner which may be prejudicial to the interests of cricket or which may bring the game of cricket, the ECB and himself into disrepute.”

JUST IN: Jason Roy has been “suspended from the next two England matches for which he is eligible for selection, but that such suspension be suspended for 12 months dependent on good behaviour.”

Jason Roy might be banned for 2 matches in the next 12 months if his behaviour isn’t upto the mark. Currently he’s available for selection and won’t serve any bans.

This is a bit of a paradoxical punishment.

Jason Roy has been given a fine and a suspended two match ban for bringing the game into disrepute. However, no one knew about this before so any disrepute has arguably been caused by the ECB’s punishment. https://t.co/BB29IC5QuQ
