England cricket team’s rising star Sam Curran recently explained the reason behind skipping IPL 2022 although he wanted to play in the tournament. Curran was an important member of the Chennai Super Kings team in the last two seasons. Prior to that, the left-arm pacer took a hat-trick for the Punjab Kings in the IPL.

Last year, Sam Curran was ruled out of IPL 2021 and ICC T20 World Cup 2021 owing to an injury. In a recent interview with ESPNCricinfo, Curran disclosed that he is still not ready 100% which is why he felt he should skip this season and return to the league in the future.

Curran thought that IPL came a little bit sooner. Here’s what he had to say:

“I’m gutted not to be there. It’s a frustration watching from home. I wanted to go [into the auction] but I didn’t at the end – which was probably the best decision. Looking back, (the) IPL probably came a little bit too soon.”

Sam Curran aiming to make a comeback to the IPL soon

During the same interview, Curran added that IPL is a tournament where he goes down for breakfast and gets an opportunity to discuss cricket with the superstars. He assured that he is planning to make a comeback to the league in the upcoming seasons.

Since Curran performed well for the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2020 and 2021, it should not be a surprise if the Chennai-based franchise rope him in again whenever he returns to the auction pool. The England all-rounder is a proven match-winner in the shorter formats of cricket. He can turn the matches upside down with his batting, bowling and fielding.

CSK are missing Curran in IPL 2022. Especially with Deepak Chahar injured, the team needs someone like Curran who can step up and deliver the goods.
