Ashwin had a stellar partnership with Hanuma Vihari to save the Test for the Indian cricket team. The off-spinner first bowled a long spell for the visitors and then had a match-saving partnership which ultimately played an important role in India’s World Test Championship Final qualification.

In a recent interview with ANI, Ashwin revealed how he had an injury at that time but he did not stop. Here’s what he had to say:

“It was surprising to me that I went bowling after the injury with painkillers. And bowled 13 or 14 over on the trot. It was so bad I was rolling on the floor because of the pain. My wife and kids helped me to stand and then the Physio came to check me. I went to the game crawling, but did my best.”

Ravichandran Ashwin was not the only Indian cricketer who was injured during the Sydney Test

Fans should note that Ashwin had issued with his back during the Test in Sydney, while his partner Hanuma Vihari was struggling with a hamstring injury. The two players prepared a game plan accordingly because Vihari could go on his front foot while Ashwin’s back hurt while going forward against fast bowlers.

Ashwin said in the same interview that he had solid communication with Vihari. The plan was that Ashwin will play against spinners, while Vihari will tackle pace. The strategy worked as India drew the game and kept the scoreline 1-1. Eventually, India won by 2-1.
