Earlier this year, when the West Indies team visited India for three ODIs and three T20Is in February, the IPL 2022 Mega Auction was around the corner. Hence, the players who impressed the franchises in those matches against the Indian cricket team ended up earning big deals at the mega auction.

While IPL 2023 Auction is still a few months away, the franchises may closely follow the series between India and West Indies, keeping a close eye on the potential new talents who could make a difference in the IPL as well.

In a recent interview with Sportskeeda Cricket, West Indies team’s batting coach Monty Desai said that he does not want the players to think about IPL, especially when they play ODI cricket. He wants the players to think about occupying the crease for extended periods. In Desai’s view, the players should focus on international cricket and everything else will follow.

When you play an international game, your primary motive should be to represent your country: Monty Desai

When asked if the West Indies cricket team players would have a big IPL contract in their minds when they come out to play against the Indian cricket team, Monty Desai said:

“If you ask me, when we’re about to play an ODI series, I wouldn’t like the IPL to be a part of their motivation. When you play an international game, your primary motive should be to represent your country in the best possible way. If you do that, everything else will fall into place.”
