It has been more than a decade since India lost a Test series on home soil. Incidentally, the last team to defeat India in India was England. It was in 2012/13, where Alastair Cook’s England beat India by 2-1 in a four-match series. Here is India’s squad from that series.

Batters – Cheteshwar Pujara, Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, MS Dhoni (c and wk), Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar

The Indian batting unit was quite strong with a nice blend of youth and experience. Cheteshwar Pujara was the top-scorer for India with 438 runs. Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir also scored more than 250 runs each, but it wasn’t the best series with the bat for Kohli, Dhoni and Tendulkar.

Only Kohli is a part of the Test team right now. He will return for the third Test against England in the ongoing series. Pujara has been dropped, while the other batters have retired.

All Rounders – Yuvraj Singh, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Piyush Chawla

India had four spin-bowling all-rounders in their squad. Ashwin played all four matches, scoring 243 runs and scalping 14 wickets. Jadeja and Chawla played just one match, while Yuvraj played three Tests.

Jadeja and Ashwin are playing for India in the ongoing series as well. Chawla was dropped but continues to play in IPL. Yuvraj has retired and only plays in exhibition matches.

Bowlers for India in Test series loss vs England – Harbhajan Singh, Umesh Yadav, Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma and Pragyan Ojha

India played with three seamers and two spinners in that series. Pragyan Ojha was the main spinner, and he bagged 20 wickets in four Tests. Harbhajan and Umesh played only one match, while Zaheer played three and Ishant played two.

None of the bowlers are a part of the Indian team now. Zaheer, Ojha and Singh have retired and work as commentators. Sharma and Yadav have been dropped but continue to play in IPL.
