Injuries are common in the Indian Premier League. Especially in the current scenario where the bio bubble protocols are tiring, the psychological aspect would also come into the picture. Hence, it is not surprising if teams have a reserve list from which they can consider options for a replacement if someone gets injured.

Current form and what a player brings to the table are the two most important factors for any replacement signing. The incoming cricketers must have played at the highest level and should be able to quickly adapt to the atmosphere of the tournament. This way, the least effort can be spent on getting a player ready for a game. On that note, if any overseas pacer is ruled out of injury, here are five players who can be considered as options for the IPL 2021 replacement signing.

1. Sean Abbott

Aussie seam bowler Sean Abbott has played IPL in the past. While his previous stint was not memorable, there is potential in him to reverse things. Form-wise, the player is looking good at the moment. He has pace and is a good presenter of the seam. Abbott can also do a bit with the bat, something which will be useful in this format. Therefore, he can be considered by franchises to play for them.

2. Tim Southee

Tim Southee has been in good form recently. Especially in the series against Australia, Southee was satisfying in most games. While a good economy was the hallmark of his performances, the experienced pacer also picked a few wickets. Yes, the last time he was around, Southee was not so good in IPL but he deserves his current form to be valued. Teams can also get a good frontline pacer through the Kiwi. While his ability with the swing is known, he can execute perfect yorkers as well.

3. Ashton Agar

Ashton Agar is now a prominent part of the Australian T20I Team. A young cricketer who once came in as a pure left-arm spinner who could bat a little, Agar is now an all-rounder in the shortest format. While his off-spin is his primary skill, big hits are not new to the player. Recently, he bagged six wickets and helped Australia win a game. He has been doing well with the bat in both the domestic competitions and in the yellow jersey. Hence, there can be a real deal for teams if they can sign the player.

4. Fidel Edwards

Pace will always be an asset in every form of the game. If experience also comes with speed, the combination will be dreadful for the batsmen. Teams needing this kind of attribute can look towards Fidel Edwards, the veteran West Indian who has recently made his comeback to the national team as well. While the pace is his main strength, Fidel knows how to use it very effectively. Here is where he can be a game-changer for the franchises.

5. Mark Wood

Mark Wood has been with the England Team for some time now. He is in the scheme of things concerning the national team. A quality T20 bowler, Wood has shown his skills on multiple occasions. In 2018, he was part of the Chennai Super Kings team that won the trophy. Hence, the tall pacer possesses tournament experience too. Therefore, he can be a decent option for franchises.
