IPL: 6 Players RCB Must Target If There Is A Mega Auction In 2021

Although they are doing well in 2020, there are still a few visible gaps and areas of improvement in RCB’s squad. While the bowling can always improve, RCB also can work on the depth in their batting. Moreover, the franchise’s core is getting old, and it might be the right time to invest in more youth.

RCB may not be desperate for it, but a mega-auction in 2021 can actually help the outfit. There is a clarity in the way RCB have gone about things in 2020, and with a mega-auction, there could be another opportunity to become better. On that note, if there is a mega-auction in 2021, here are six players the Bengaluru-based team can target.

1. Suresh Raina

Going by what has happened this season, it is unlikely that Suresh Raina will play for CSK again. Hence, RCB must look to sign the veteran. At the moment, RCB’s lack a batsman who can play with complete fearlessness. If they sign Raina, this vacancy will get fulfilled. Also, with Raina, RCB would get plenty of experience and a gun fielder on the pitch. That said, if Raina does come to RCB, Virat Kohli has to open the innings, something which he cannot afford to do with an inexperienced non-ABD middle-order.

2. Manish Pandey

While Raina is someone who can infuse momentum to the innings, Pandey can sustain it. Especially around Virat and AB, Manish will be more dangerous. The Karnataka lad might not play for SRH if there is a mega-auction as his performances have been underwhelming in 2020. Therefore, if available for cheap, RCB should go hard for the homegrown talent. It might be an early call, but Manish could also be a worthy option to become Virat’s captaincy successor at RCB.

3. Glenn Maxwell

Next season or the one after it, RCB must look to plan for life without AB. It is a hard process, and having Glenn Maxwell could help it. Yes, Maxi has been off-color this edition, but we know how destructive he can be on his day. With a lackluster season, the Aussie will also be available for a cheap price. Keeping all of this in mind, RCB must target Maxwell next season.

4. Lockie Ferguson

While Chris Morris and Isuru Udana have been decent, there is still one missing link in RCB’s overseas bowling attack. Lockie Ferguson might just be the answer to this. KKR might retain Lockie, but if they chose against it, the Kiwi must be high on RCB’s target-list next season. The pacer is experienced in the T20 format and is adept at bowling at all stages of the game. This could help RCB in a big way.

5. Ishan Kishan

The lack of a quality domestic wicket-keeper apart from Parthiv Patel has affected RCB’s balance this season. Ishan Kishan seems to be the best option for RCB to solve this problem. With the amount of talent at MI, if there is a mega-auction, Ishan Kishan might not be retained. Hence, there is a strong possibility of Kishan becoming a hot-cake at the next auctions. If RCB can hold their nerve, the Jharkand player could turn up in red-and-black in 2021.

6. Prasidh Krishna

Prasidh Krishna has bowled well in patches this season. Especially at the death, the youngster has shown that he has got the potential to follow in the footsteps of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami. Although RCB does have Navdeep Saini in their ranks, they might look to add more depth to this unit. Signing Prasidh could be a good option in this case. Not only would he cover for Saini, if the next IPL happens in India, Prasidh’s experience at Chinnaswamy could also help RCB.
