The T20I series between India and Ireland got underway earlier tonight with a battle at The Village in Dublin. Indian captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to bowl first keeping the weather conditions in mind. Because of rain, the match was reduced to 12 overs a side. However, that did not stop Harry Tector from scoring a half-century against the Men in Blue.
India got off to a great start as Bhuvneshwar Kumar rattled the stumps of Irish skipper Andy Balbirnie in the first over itself. Soon after, Indian skipper Hardik Pandya became the first Indian captain to take a wicket in T20Is by dismissing Paul Stirling caught out. Avesh Khan soon dismissed Gareth Delany in single digits as Ireland were struggling at 22/3.
Harry Tector then joined forces with Lorcan Tucker to rebuild the innings. The two batters had a partnership of 50 runs for the fourth wicket, with Tector playing the aggressor’s role. Tucker scored 18 runs off 16 deliveries before handing a catch to Axar Patel off Yuzvendra Chahal’s bowling. His knock comprised two sixes.
Tector remained in the middle till the last ball and finished with 64 runs from 33 deliveries. The right-handed batter played some beautiful shots during his 33-ball knock. He smashed six fours and three sixes to help Ireland finish with 108/4 in their 12 overs.
