The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 was a grand success, both financially and marketing wise as well. The IPL 2022 saw the tournament return to 10 teams tournament after a big gap of 10 years. Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans were the two new entrants in the competition.

The length of the competition also increased to a total of 74 matches with the inclusion of 2 new years, and it will continue to grow even bigger with years to come. Meanwhile, with the growth of the IPL, the ICC is quite not happy as Bilateral series’ are being overlooked.

While speaking to PTI, Mr. Jay Shah revealed that BCCI may follow the IPL 2021 structure and hold the IPL in 2 phases in future. He also revealed that there are multiple offers to play friendlies overseas for the franchises. “We are having discussions with various stake-holders. There are also multiple proposals for all the IPL franchises of playing friendlies overseas,” said Mr. Shah.

But he also asserted that such decisions can only be taken after a discussion with the other International board, “we also need to speak to other boards as we would need to know the schedule of international players.”

Jay Shah also declined any reports of dip in viewership due to viewer fatigue. Various reports suggested that the IPL 2022 saw a dip in its watching time because of fatigue. Mr. Shah stated that the IPL 2020 and 2021 numbers skyrocketed keeping in mind the COVID and cricket being the only viewing option from the comfort of the home.

He added that in comparison to 2020 and 2021 edition, with normalcy coming in and people venturing out for dinner and vacations, turned out a big difference between previous 2 season and this season. He added that IPL 2022’s numbers should only be compared with the IPL 2019, the last edition that was played under normalcy before COVID struck.
