Lanka Premier League 2023: List of Award Winners and Prize Money

After about 20 days of cricketing action in the island of Lanka, the Lanka Premier League (LPL) has crowned a new champion as B-Love Kandy beat Dambulla Aura in the grand finale of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2023.

The 2023 edition of the Lanka Premier League began on the 30th of July with the defending champions Jaffna Kings beating Colombo Striker.

Dambulla Aura, Galle Titans, Jaffna Kings and the champions B-Love Kandy are the four teams who qualified for the Lanka Premier League 2023 playoffs.

In the first qualifier, the Dambulla Aura side beat Galle Titans, who faced of B-Love Kandy in the 2nd qualifier after the latter had beaten the defending champions Jaffna Kings in the eliminator.

The grand finale was played between the Dambulla Aura and the B-Love Kandy at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

After opting to bat first after winning the toss, Aura side could only put 148 runs on the board in their 20 overs. The target was easily chased down by the B-Love Kandy side with small contributions from the batter. Kandy chased down the target in the last over for the loss of 5 wickets and won the match by 5 wickets.

Safe Hands of the Tournament

Safe Hands of the Tournament is a very important award of the competition. It was given to the player with most catches in the tournament. David Miller was awarded as the winner who got US Dollar 1000 (83 Thousand INR Current Rate) and also a mobile phone.

Maximum Sixes

Sri Lankan cricketer Wanindu Hasaranga came out guns blazing with his bat in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2023. The all-rounder hit 14 sixes and thus won the Maximum Sixes award and US Dollar 1000.

Emerging Player of the Tournament

The emerging player of the tournament award was given to Dambulla Aura’s young batter Lasith Croospulle. The 24-years-old scored 232 runs in 8 matches.

Most Wickets

Wanindu Hasaranga, from the champions B-Love Kandy was the best bowler with the ball throughout the tournament. He picked 19 wickets from 10 matches. He also got US Dollar 1500.

Most Runs

The Sri Lankan all-rounder once again finds himself top of the pile, this time in terms of runs scored. Hasaranga scored 279 runs in 10 matches. He also won US Dollar 1500 (1 Lakh 24 Thousand INR Current Rate).

Player of the Tournament

And obviously when a player clean sweeps all the awards, there’s no way he shouldn’t be the best player of the tournament. After bagging almost all the awards, it is Wanindu Hasaranga who won the Player of the Tournament award for the Lanka Premier League 2023. He also won US Dollar 5000 (4 Lakh 15 Thousand INR Current Rate).

Runners-up

After a tremendous performance throughout the tournament, ending the league stage at the top of the table, Dambulla Aura came out 2nd best. The runners-up team received their medals and cash prize of US Dollar 50000 (41 Lakh 59 Thousand INR Current Rate).

Champions

B-Love Kandy finished the regular season at 3rd place. They had to go through the eliminator and then the qualifier 2 to finally make it to the final and eventually win it too. The champions received a cash prize of US Dollar 100000 (83 Lakh 18 Thousand INR Current Rate).
