James has an elder brother named Darren Pattinson, who is 41 years old. Darren played one Test match for England against South Africa in 2008. He bagged two wickets in his only Test match.

Joe Root has a brother named Will Thomas Root aka Billy Root. Billy is younger than Joe. Like his elder sibling, Billy plays cricket. While he is yet to make his international debut for England, Billy has scored 1,751 runs in 33 first-class matches.
