IPL is a tournament which started in the year 2008, and since then, fans have witnessed some crazy matches in the tournament’s history. 20 years ago, no fan would be ready to believe that a team can score 200 runs in 20 overs and still end up on the losing side.
However, in the Indian Premier League, there have been many such matches where targets of 200 were chased down. Similarly, the teams have also managed to stop their opponents from chasing even 130 on some occasions. Here’s a list of the lowest total defended by each team in the league.
10. LSG – 153 vs. PBKS, IPL 2022
LSG joined the league last year only. In a match against the Punjab Kings, LSG scored 153/8 in 20 overs, and then Mohsin Khan’s top-class bowling helped them restrict PBKS to 133/8.
9. RR – 144 vs. KKR, 2013
RR have been a part of the league since 2008, but they have never defended a target of less than 130. Their lowest total defended is 144 against KKR at Jaipur in 2013.
8. GT – 135 vs. LSG, IPL 2023
GT joined the league along with LSG in 2022. Earlier this season, Gujarat went to Lucknow and successfully defended a 135-run total, winning by seven runs.
7. DC – 130 vs. GT, 2023
Delhi Capitals produced a great performance last night in Ahmedabad and defended a 131-run target. They won the game by five runs.
6. KKR – 129 vs. RCB, IPL 2008
KKR always seem to play their best against RCB. Back in 2008, KKR scored 129 and defended the target against RCB at Eden Gardens.
5. RCB – 126 vs. CSK and LSG, 2008 and 2023
RCB have defended totals of 126 twice. They did it first against CSK at Chepauk in 2008 and then against LSG at Lucknow in this season.
4. MI – 120 vs. PWI, IPL 2012
On May 3, 2012, MI defended a 121-run target against Pune Warriors. It was in Pune, where Lasith Malinga’s death bowling help MI win.
3. PBKS – 119 vs. MI, 2009
PBKS have troubled MI a lot in the league. Back in the 2009 season, PBKS defended a 120-run target against MI, winning the game by three runs.
2. SRH – 118 vs. MI, 2018
SRH joined the league late, but they hold the second spot on this list. Back in 2018, they scored 118 and still defeated MI by 31 runs, that too at the Wankhede Stadium.
1. CSK – 116 vs. PBKS, IPL 2009
The record for the lowest total defended by a team in the league belongs to MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings. In the 2009 season, they defended 116 against PBKS.
