As per reports, the Lucknow franchise may not sign Rashid Khan. Until now, there were strong rumours heard that the Afghan superstar will be a marquee signing for the new franchise. However, Lucknow seems to have a plan B. If they fail to sign the primary target Rashid Khan, RPSG-owned Lucknow reportedly decides on 2 backup options for the Afghan.
Ahmedabad making moves in the market
Meanwhile, the Ahmedabad franchise is making strong moves in the market. Due to the issues with BCCI, the franchise had been struggling to concentrate on team building. However, it seems that they were working in the background. Various reports state that the franchise has zeroed in Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan and Ishan Kishan as the three picks before IPL 2022 Auctions. However, there is still a tough race for Rashid between both teams. That said, Ahmedabad is in the race ahead of Lucknow for the Afghan cricketer.
Lucknow reportedly decides on 2 backup options
Lucknow has reportedly made up their mind on Kagiso Rabada or Marcus Stoinis as the options if they fail to sign Rashid Khan. Although in comparison, Stoinis and Rabada feel underwhelming, both players do offer a good package to the team. Stoinis is an all-rounder and will add balance to the XI. He can bat at various positions in the line-up but his strength is while opening the batting. However, for Delhi Capitals and Australia, he has found success in the middle-order. On the other hand, Rabada is a proven customer in IPL. Yes, his current form may not be great but the South African is a classy customer and can be backed to come good.
Lucknow has appointed Andy Flower and Gautam Gambhir as the Head Coach and Mentor respectively. KL Rahul is on top of the list to be the first signing for the franchise.
