The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League is all set to kick off on March 23, 2024. It will be another installment of the lucrative league. The Chennai Super Kings will defend their title in the coming season. They beat the Gujarat Titans in the final of the last season.

With that win, CSK won the record-equalling fifth title. However, they have a bright chance to win their sixth championship and give a memorable gift to MS Dhoni, as it can be his last season in the league.

With the tournament just one and a half months away, talk about the tournament has started. The IPL 2024 auction was also another big event that saw some record-breaking signings by the IPL franchises. Mitchell Starc (INR 24.75 crore) and Pat Cummins (INR 20.5 crore) became the most expensive players of all time.

The defending champion also made some good signings at the auction. They bought the Kiwi duo of Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra. Meanwhile, RCB also bought some players, mainly bowlers. Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar recently shared his views on all teams in a recent discussion on Star Sports.

He talked about the strengths and weaknesses of all the teams. However, when asked about the best opening pair in the coming season, he picked the defending champions. Notably, there are some teams that have some brilliant openers at the moment. Just like Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis, KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock, Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan, and many more.

However, Gavaskar said that the pair of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway is the best pair in the IPL. He said, “I feel their left and right-handed opening combination of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway is probably the best opening pair in the IPL because they always give good starts.”

The former Indian captain also said that CSK has a strong batting lineup and has invested mostly in all-rounders. However, Gavaskar revealed a wish from MS Dhoni. He said that he wants Dhoni to hit a six every game, which means at least 14 sixes in IPL 2024.
